With the Federal Election the day before White Ribbon
Day, we have contacted both major parties to ask them for information
on several key issues related to ending to violence against women.
We have asked for both major parties to:
- Commit to developing a national plan of action for prevention of
violence against women including strategies, policies and programs that
will explicitly support men to work to end violence against women
across Australia
- Commit to securing Government financial support to help the White
Ribbon Campaign to establish a national coordination framework to grow
the campaign into future years
- Wear a white ribbon on November 24 and 25 – to draw attention to the White Ribbon Campaign and its messages
- Offer to record a video blog of support for White Ribbon Day on the White Ribbon website
You can help us focus attention on these issues by asking your local
candidates for their views. Please email us with their responses at
admin@whiteribbonday.org.au and we will put them up on this page.
Another activity you can do is to get your friends, family and colleagues to sign our
petition never to commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women and also to ask the new government to implement a national plan of action to make this a thing of the past.
Simply download the petition
here and send it back to us at: White Ribbon Day, PO Box 20, Killara NSW 2071.
